NATURE AND HIKING IN THE ALPUJARRA: PLANS AND PROPOSALS
If you are an outdoor sports love, landscapes and nature, you will surely want to take advantage of your stay at Hotel Taray Botánico to do some of the most outstanding hiking routes in La Alpujarra. Both the town of Órgiva, where we are, as well as other charming towns such as Capileira or Pampaneira with perfect places to start these hiking trails.
The Alpujarra, being a very tourist area, has dozens of hiking trails perfectly signposted, so that, you have no problem during your walk. In addition, whatever your physical level, you will find some hiking trails in La Alpujarra that perfectly suits your needs
ROUTE OF THE CENTENARY OLIVES, IN ORGIVA
Distance: 7.07 km.
Accumulated slope: 260 m. The highest point is around 508m
Duration: hour and 45 minutes approximately.
Type of route: Circular
One of the main tourist attractions of Órgiva’s Centennial Olive Route is the environment in which they are located, which gives us the possibility of spending a day in union with nature.
This circular route has an approximate length of 7 kilometers, a low degree of difficulty and can be carried out in approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes.
As a starting and ending point we will take the Plaza de la Alpujarra.
ROUTE GR-142, BETWEEN LANJARÓN AND ÓRGIVA (SECTION 1)
Distance: 7.32 km
Time: 3 hours 38 minutes (round trip)
The GR 142 covers 144 kilometers spread over 13 stages that will go through different valleys to which Sierra Nevada supplies water through important rivers.
It is these channels, together with the irrigation network, that are drawing the geographical features of these beautiful mountains. Its roads, trails and paths will immerse us in dreamlike places that invite to be visited.
This route is the one between Lanjarón and Orgiva and is section 1 of the GR-142. It runs through the Sierra among almond and olive crops. Later it goes down to the channel of Rio Chico to get closer to Órgiva.
ROUTE GR-7, BETWEEN LANJARÓN AND CASTAÑAR
Distance: 8-9 km. (17 km. round trip)
Estimated time: 6-7 hours. (round trip)
This pedestrian path that leads to the town of Cáñar runs along old bridle paths and through a lane of neighbors, partly concreted, along the route of the GR-7.
It starts at kilometer 8.1 of the A-348, in the East-West direction, and ascends first to flatten later, when we approach Cáñar.
Enter Cañar through the place known as Las Balsas, near the old Venta de los Herradores, descending towards the town.
The road has signaling and information milestones.
RAVINE OF POQUEIRA, BETWEEN PAMPANEIRA AND BUBIÓN
From the Plaza de la Libertad, we will go up where the royal path begins to Bubión. After a curve to the right you start to climb until you reach Bubión without any difficulty (45 minutes)
In Bubión, we head to the Church and crossed its square diagonally, leaving the village towards the sports center. Before reaching the river, we found an indication to the right of ascent to Capileira.
We cross the bridge and climb 50 meters where the road divides in two, we will follow the one on the left, continue until we reach a wide path that we will take to the left.
We lose altitude going down to the Acequia de Casariche. From here, we turn left until crossing the river and, once crossed, on the right there is a track that takes us directly to Pampaneira.
ROUTE BETWEEN CAPILEIRA AND THE VIWEPOINT OF LOS TAJOS DEL ÁNGEL
Distance: 3.61 km (7km. round trip)
Duration: 1 hour and 27 minutes (round trip)
Elevation: 262 m
3 km from Capileira you have to leave the car.
Here begins the route to the Viwepoint of los Tajos del Angel where we find incredible views of the Poqueira Valley, with the municipalities of Capileira and Bubión and of some peaks of the Sierra Nevada High Mountain such as “Raspones del Río Seco”, “Cerro de los Machos” and “ among others.
ROUTE BETWEEN CAPILEIRA, LA CEBADILLA AND BARQUEZ DE POQUEIRA
Distance: 9.7 km (19,4 km. round trip)
Elevation: 437 m
Duration: 4 hours and 25 minutes (round trip)
Hiking trail in the Alpujarra that starts from the Era-Aldeire viewpoint, and goes to the town of La Cebadilla and the Poqueira power station, passing by the Buchite bridge, to return by the path of the irrigation ditches. Beautiful to make it in autumn, season where you could even pick up chestnuts.
The route offers wonderful views of the Poqueira Ravine, where the river of the same name runs.
The town of La Cebadilla was built in the 50s for the workers of the Poqueira Hydroelectric Power Plant, here we can admire homes, a school and even a hermitage. It is currently abandoned although the plant itself is still in operation
